This spicy minced meat-cauliflower dish is easy to make and can be well combined with mint rice. You can also easily make the spice mix yourself, especially if you have a food processor, hand blender or spice grinder. But it’s also possible with a mortar.

Make your own spice mix (boemboe)

You make this dish with a Rendang spice mix (boemboe). I use exactly the same spice mix as for Keto Rendang Daging. Boemboes are finely rubbed herbal mixtures used in Indonesian cuisine. A boemboe is a mixture of spices and herbs with also onion and garlic. In this boemboe I do not add oil but coconut milk to get a paste.

In this boemboe you use star anise, among other things. That’s a little woody. So it is very important that you grind this very well. If this fails, replace the star anise with ground star anise. Another option is not to put the star anise through the boemboe but to add it directly to the mince and take them out before serving.

  • 60 Grams Ui

  • 0.5 Tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 Teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 2 kemiri nuts
  • 5 Pieces cardamom seed
  • 4 Grams star anise (5-6 asterisks – grind well, otherwise use 0.5 teaspoon ground aniseed)
  • 0.5 Teaspoon Laos
  • 3 Tablespoons coconut milk
